Staff of WMUB 88.5 FM, Miami’s public radio station, earned three Best of Show awards, five first-place awards and three second-place awards in a competition sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists, Ohio Chapter, in October. Best of Show awards went to: • Aileen LeBlanc in the category of Best Reporter in Ohio (small market). • WMUB staff in the category of Best Newscast for Ohio (small market). • News director Gary Scott for Best Public Affairs Program (small market) for “Forum: Year in Review.” WMUB on-air personnel also were honored with the following awards: • Coverage of the Environment (Small Market) First Place: Tana Weingartner, for “Fernald, What’s Left?” • Social Justice Reporting (Small Market) First Place: Tana Weingartner, for “Lisa Crawford” • Deadline Reporting (Small Market) First Place: Gary Scott, for “Hackett Drops Out” Second Place: Tana Weingartner, for “Zarqawi Reaction” • Government Coverage (Small Market) First Place: John Hingsbergen and Gary Scott, for “Election 2006” • Human Interest Report (Small Market) First Place: Gary Scott, for “Chopped: Art of the Custom Motorcycle” Second Place: Cheri Lawson, for “Las Posadas” • Investigative Reporting Second Place: Aileen LeBlanc, for “Dairy Not Long for Longtown” |
