	Miami University will be part of a national demonstration project to educate students on a variety of health issues such as smoking, diabetes, stress, sexually-related topics, alcohol and drugs and intellectual health. Depending on the outcome of the project, it could be the blueprint for health promotion at colleges across the country.

	Janine Saliba, a Miami University junior, has been named a William J. Clinton Scholar to study at the American University in Dubai this summer. Ten students were selected nationwide for the summer program, designed to immerse them in the culture and allow them to observe firsthand the economic and democratic development of a modern Arab state.

	Miami's Joanna Jackson Goldman Prize, valued this year at approximately $26,000, gives a Miami student the chance to pursue a passion in the year after graduation. Applications and guidelines may be picked up at the university honors and scholars office in Bishop Hall or downloaded from www.honors.muohio.edu. Deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15.

	Phillip Shriver, president emeritus of Miami University, will join 19 others being inducted into the 2009 class of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in the Franklin County Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus. Shriver is a Navy veteran of World War II, having served from July 1943 until January 1946.

	Pledge-a-meal, an annual project at Miami that allows any student with a meal plan to donate one meal to help feed the hungry, is part of Hunger Awareness events at Miami. Other events include Writers' Harvest, sponsored by Miami's creative writing program, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Room 100 of the art building.

	John H. Buckingham, 97, professor emeritus of chemistry, died on Sept. 29. In 1943, Buckingham joined the Miami faculty as a professor in the department of chemistry, and served as chair from 1959-1973.

	Casey Vogt, a Miami University graduate student, is an award winner in the 2008 MFANow International Painting competition. This year's competition received 314 entries from 145 schools, representing 16 countries.

	Dana Hargrove of Orlando, Fla., is winner of the 10th annual Young Painters Competition for the $10,000 William (Miami '36) and Dorothy Yeck Award. Winners of the competition, sponsored by Miami University's Hiestand Gallery, School of Fine Arts, were announced Jan. 23. Hargrove was selected for her work, "Circuit Map."

	Sandra Seefeld is recipient of the 2007 Crossan Hays Curry Distinguished Educator Award. Seefeld, professor of music, retires this month after 30 years of teaching at Miami.

	An international conference on "Recent Elections in West Africa" will be held at Miami University Thursday and Friday, April 10 and 11, sponsored by the department of political science. 	Miami University Libraries announces the completion of a revised and updated digital collection of the letters of William Holmes McGuffey. Selected letters were first available online in 1998. Approaching the tenth anniversary of the creation of the original online collection, this new, revised and expanded edition includes the entire collection of letters along with text transcripts.

	"Rx," a completely student produced film, was recognized as one of three Student Production Award winners at the 43rd annual Midwestern Regional Emmy Awards ceremony held June 23 in Columbus. The Emmys are given by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
