  Evan Thomas-Arnold, a senior at Miami University, has received a Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship that will be used for study in Egypt.

  The Center for American and World Cultures (CAWC) announces the inter-cultural off-site classroom experience fund to help support expenses associated with off-site classroom exploration of U.S. and world cultures.

  The prairie vole may hold a key to better understanding the link between genes and social behavior in mammals, including humans.   
08/17/2006  Two students awarded Ohio Academy of Science scholarships  
  Two Miami students have received scholarships from the Ohio Academy of Science in the amount of $2,500 for the 2006-07 school year.   
08/18/2006  Student medical transport is now Access Miami  
  Miami University's student medical transport is now called "Access Miami."

Access Miami, which transports students with disabilities, is part of the university's parking and transportation services program. 
 
08/18/2006  Provost annuonces three distinguished scholars  
  At faculty assembly Friday, Aug. 18, Provost Jeffrey Herbst recognized faculty whose research has earned them accolades. He presented Distinguished Scholar Awards to Margaret Ziolkowski of GREAL and John Kiss of botany and the Young Scholar Award to Hongcai Zhou of chemistry and biochemistry.

  Edgar Marquess Branch, 93, Miami University research professor of English emeritus and associate in American literature, died Monday, Aug. 14, at his home in Oxford.   
08/18/2006  Kate Ronald First Recipient of Graduate Teaching Award  
  Kate Ronald has been named the first recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate Instruction at Miami University. In 2005 Miami's graduate council proposed the award to recognize excellence in graduate instruction and mentoring.    
08/21/2006  Crime alerts issued  
  Following the Oxford police investigation into two assaults on Miami students early Aug. 21, Miami University police have issued crime alerts to notify the community and to seek information.
Both alerts can be found on the
Miami police crime alert Web page. 
 
08/22/2006  IT services support desk provides on-site support in King Library  
  New this academic year, the IT services support desk is providing on-site IT support at the information desk on the main floor of King Library during the weeks that classes are in session. Hours are as follows:    
08/22/2006  New buses join Miami Metro fleet  
  This fall, Miami Metro has a different provider and a new look as buses enter the fleet with an updated design.   
08/22/2006  CAWC "Intersecting Lives" film series begins Wednesday  
  The Center for American and World Cultures (CAWC) will present the first film of the "Intersecting Lives: Globalization is Diversity in the 21st Century" film and discussion series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, in 212 MacMillan Hall.

  The 2006-2007 Code of Student Conduct includes several notable changes. One change redefines alcohol violations.    
08/24/2006  Arrest made in Monday a.m. assault re: Crime Alert #3  
  Thursday, Aug. 24, Oxford police detectives announced they arrested Daniel M. Kohr, a 22-year-old Miami University student, for the assault of another Miami student Aug. 21 in uptown Oxford.

  Ten students received the Provost's Student Academic Achievement Awards at the Aug. 21 convocation and were recognized by Provost Jeffrey Herbst.   
08/25/2006  High use for IT services  
  Miami's IT services moved the myMiami intranet to a higher capacity server overnight Aug. 25 after heavy user load was causing delays with login. The move seemed to alleviate problems, officials said.   
08/28/2006  Phillips Hall fitness room reopens  
  With support and cooperation from the physical education, health, and sports studies department and the recreational sports center, the Employee Health and Well-Being program reopened Phillips Hall Fitness Room 29 for benefit-eligible faculty/staff Monday, Aug. 28. To enhance the fitness experience, Employee Health and Well-Being will also be piloting a personal training service provided by rec sports staff for those employees who want a more structured program to fit their health/fitness needs and goals.
