  The graduation success of Miami University's student-athletes continues its recent trend of excellence -- at a rate of 82 percent -- placing well above the national rate, according to the latest Federal Graduation Rates (FGR) report.

  The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded an $800,000 grant for a collaborative research project at Miami University. The three-year project will create a national model for increasing the computational thinking and communication abilities of computer science and software engineering students by integrating communication instruction and activities throughout the curriculum.

  Jeffrey Herbst, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Miami University, has been named president of Colgate University beginning July 1, 2010.

  American students are studying abroad in record numbers, and Miami University students have placed Miami 23rd nationally among comparable universities in undergraduate participation, according to the Open Doors 2009 report by the Institute of International Education.

  The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) results are out and Miami University outranks the national average in all five benchmark categories.

  The 29th annual International Lilly Conference on College Teaching will be held at Miami University Nov. 19-22. Hundreds of educators will attend presentations and workshops on the scholarship of learning and teaching.

  Miami University Libraries mark a centennial this year as an official Federal Depository Library, receiving government publications since the 1850s. A celebration event will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in 320 King Library and is open to the public.

  Miami University's undergraduate and graduate educator programs have received full accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

  The ongoing economic recession is limiting the range and depth of Ohioans' civic engagement, according to a report released today by Miami University Hamilton's Center for Civic Engagement and the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC) based in Washington, DC.

  The sixth annual Human Rights and Social Justice Program at Miami University will be observed Wednesday, Nov. 18. Prue Dana, mayor of the city of Oxford, will deliver a proclamation at 12:30 p.m. in the Shriver Center multipurpose rooms.

  Miami University junior Justinn Eddie has his little sister to thank for inspiring what has become his life's work. Eddie, a mechanical engineering major from Cleveland, is working on an invention of a nano-sized robot that would be implanted under the skin or inside a vein and would travel on its own from one place to another to deliver nutrients or medicine within the human body.

  Elinora Bo Hyun Park, a Korean-American businesswoman, has made a gift of $500,000 to Miami University's Farmer School of Business in support of scholarships for international study.   
11/04/2009  Shriver to be inducted into Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame 1 photo(s) 
  Phillip Shriver, president emeritus of Miami University, will join 19 others being inducted into the 2009 class of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in the Franklin County Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus. Shriver is a Navy veteran of World War II, having served from July 1943 until January 1946.

  Miami University Distinguished Professor of Geology, Yildirim Dilek, has received the 2009 Geological Society of America's (GSA) International Division Distinguished Career Award. The award was presented at the GSA's annual meeting, held in Portland, Oregon, Oct. 17-21.   
11/02/2009  Miami to create blueprint for health promotion at colleges  
  Miami University will be part of a national demonstration project to educate students on a variety of health issues such as smoking, diabetes, stress, sexually-related topics, alcohol and drugs and intellectual health. Depending on the outcome of the project, it could be the blueprint for health promotion at colleges across the country.   
10/30/2009  "Giants of 1809: Darwin, Lincoln and Poe" Nov. 11-12  
  As part of Miami University's Bicentennial celebration, "Giants of 1809: The Legacy of Charles Darwin, Abraham Lincoln and Edgar Allen Poe" will be held Nov. 11-12. The interdisciplinary symposium will examine the impact of these three pivotal figures of the early 19th century, all of whom were born in 1809 - the year of Miami's founding.

  Individuals received Women's Leadership and Male Ally Awards honoring their efforts as advocates for women, champions of equality and models of leadership during the Women's Leadership Symposium and Celebration hosted Oct. 23 by Miami University's women's center.

  Miami University alumnus Rajiv Joseph has received a $50,000 Whiting Writers' Award for 2009, which recognizes extraordinary talent and promise and is one of the most coveted prizes for up-and-coming writers.   
10/27/2009  Alessio honored by College of Sports Medicine 1 photo(s) 
  Helaine Alessio, chair and professor of kinesiology and health, received the Founder's Award for extensive service and contributions to the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine. She was honored at the organization's annual meeting held Oct. 16-17. Also honored was Hayden Ansinelli, a junior exercise science major, who received an award for the best undergraduate research poster.
