Miami breaks applications record

Miami University's office of admissions reports that 20,052 students have applied for enrollment as of Feb. 3. On Jan. 20, the university broke its record for number of applicants with 18,623 submitted.

Michael Kabbaz, associate vice president for enrollment management, said, "Parents and students are clearly recognizing the value of the education Miami University offers. Our graduation rates are fantastic, and our graduates meet great success after their four years at Miami."

Last year, 18,485 students applied to Miami. Deadline for apllication submissions is Feb. 1.

In December, Miami reported a 96 percent increase in the number of applications it received for early-decision admission. The early-decision process allows applicants to pre-select Miami by committing to attending should they be accepted. More than 910 students applied early decision for the fall 2012 school year.

University officials attribute the following factors to growth in both early- and regular-decision applications:

• It’s the second year in a row U.S. News & World Report has ranked Miami as one of the top three universities nationwide committed to teaching undergraduates.
• Miami continues to rank highly in numerous other national guides, including those citing the value of a Miami degree.
• From 2010 to 2011, Miami made more high school visits both nationwide and in Ohio, with a combined increase from 404 to 549 visits.
• Miami added three regional admission counselors in 2010- 2011, one each in the Midwest, West and East.
• Miami has placed its message in more cities via TV, billboards, Facebook, Pandora and cinema ads.
  
  Many more applications are expected: Feb. 1 is the deadline for applications for fall 2012 enrollment.
