President's annual address: "See and seize opportunities"

Oct 06, 2011

Miami University President David Hodge, in his annual address, Sept. 30, encouraged employees and students to "build a culture of entrepreneurial spirit, a culture that sees and seizes opportunities brought on by changes in the world around us."

Hodge described the core values of thinking and acting in the entrepreneurial spirit, not simply in creating business, but in transforming Miami’s culture. These core values align perfectly with Miami’s core educational values, he said.

The entrepreneurial university recognizes that liberal education has fueled American innovation, thrives on significant issues, values both innovation and execution, and places culture ahead of structure, Hodge explained.

Hodge identified several Miami initiatives where he said the university is building momentum toward creating the entrepreneurial culture, including work by the Strategic Priorities Task Force, which looked at how the university administers and delivers services that support the instructional and research mission of the university.

Dr. Hodge’s entire speech is available online.
