What the Miami Experience means to me
I'm good with math and numbers so I decided to major in accounting. So far, my favorite accounting professor is Dan Wiegand. He's a great teacher and goes out of his way to make sure his students understand the material. Before each exam, he's held a study session on a Sunday, taking time out of his own schedule to help us prepare for the test. I also like that he's worked professionally as an accountant for several corporations.
Outside of academics, most of my time is taken up by my job. As a student manager in the Shriver production kitchen, I've developed strong communication and organizational skills. As a manager, I hire and train other student workers. I'm also expected to understand all the job positions and jump in when necessary to help out. It's a fun, laid-backed atmosphere, yet we all work really hard.
In addition to work and school, I'm a member of Miami’s Outdoor Adventure Club. We plan and lead our own trips. I've gone whitewater rafting in West Virginia and backpacking in the Everglades. Every spring, right before finals, there's also an opportunity to go skydiving in Indiana. I did it last year. I was terrified, but it was a lot of fun. I remember sitting in my dorm room afterward, doing homework and thinking, 'Wow, I jumped out of a plane today.'
