Programs and Degrees

Zoology
Teaching and research topics in the Department of Zoology include molecular and cellular biology, ecology and environmental biology, and physiology and neuroscience.

Degrees offered: Master of Arts*, Master of Arts in Teaching in the Biological Sciences*, Master of Science, Doctor of Philosophy

Application deadline for fall 2010: Screening of applications to the M.S. and Ph.D. programs will begin on January 5 and continue until all available positions are filled.
M.A.T./M.A. program: See M.A.T./M.A. application deadline.

Financial aid deadline for fall 2010: March 1, 2010

Test required: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for all programs except the M.A. and M.A.T.

Other admission requirements: Applicants should submit three letters of recommendation, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores, a statement of purpose, transcripts, and the Graduate School application.
M.A.T./M.A. program: See M.A.T./M.A. admission requirements.

Program requirements:
M.S. program: 30 semester hours. Students conduct a research project, present the project as a written thesis, and pass an oral exam in defense of the thesis.
Ph.D. program: Students take a written and oral comprehensive exam, conduct a research project, present the project as a written dissertation, and pass an oral exam in defense of the dissertation.
M.A.T./M.A. program: 35 semester hours. Students also complete a Program Development and Leadership course, a capstone course, and a teaching or work portfolio.

* The Master of Arts in Teaching in the Biological Sciences (M.A.T.) is a cooperative program offered by the Departments of Botany, Microbiology, and Zoology. The M.A.T. has three main programs: the Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP), the Global Field Program (GFP), and the Integrative Science Program (ISP). These programs are designed for educators (K–12 teachers and administrators) and non-educators who want a part-time, non-thesis master's option.
