Music The Miami University Department of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music and offers a Master of Music in Performance degree and a Master of Music in Music Education degree.

Music performance: Applicants should have the equivalent
to a bachelors degree in music performance and should
submit a statement of purpose and three letters of reference.
A live audition in the principal performing medium is strongly
recommended.
Music education: Applicants should have the equivalent to a bachelors degree in music education plus state teaching certification. Prospective students should submit a statement of purpose and three letters of reference. A live audition in the principal performing medium is strongly recommended. Applicants to this program should interview with graduate music education faculty.
Program requirements:
Music performance: 33 semester hours. Applied study
in the student's major area and a public recital are combined
with repertory study and core course work in music history
and theory. A research project and comprehensive oral examination
are both required.
Music education: 34 semester hours. The program emphasizes research problems and current pedagogical practices. Candidates pursue skills in conducting and performance and are required to complete a research project and comprehensive oral examination.
