Background: From Istanbul, Turkey, Zeynep graduated with a bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering from Istanbul University.

Practical Application: The focus of Zeynep's studies involves extensional tectonics—discovering geological structures that evolve as a result of extensional deformation. By expanding what is known about extensional tectonics, she hopes to make profound contributions to the field of geology and develop strategies for exploring oil present in extensional basins.

Career Goals: "I want to contribute the knowledge gained through my passion to the earth sciences and also American oil companies searching for other natural alternatives to oil. I am ready for the challenge."

Global reach: Zeynep met her academic advisor while in Istanbul and was encouraged to consider Miami for graduate school. Now that she has come to Miami, Zeynep says she is impressed by the accomplishments of the university's geology department and is pleased that her education is comprehensive.
