a The Hamilton campus has no residential facilities.

b Non-Campus - a Non-Campus is (1) any building or property owned or controlled by a student organization that is officially recognized by Miami; or (2) any building or property owned or controlled by Miami that is used in direct support of or in relation to, Miami's educational purposes, is frequently used by students, and is not within the same reasonably contiguous geographic area of Miami. The Middletown campus has no builidings owned and controlled by student organizations. Non-contiguous buildings used by Miami-Middletown in direct support of its educational purposes include off-site locations that were used to offer academic courses.

c "Non-Verified" reports are reports that have been made to campus security authorities other than the Miami University Police or Hamilton Police. These reporting authorities include the Office of Ethics and Student Conflict Resolution, Residence Life, coaches, and advisers to student organizations. Often these reports lack sufficient information fo rthe University to accurately classify the crime or location.

Lack of verification does not reflect the veracity of the report. Statistics contained in this category may duplicate crimes concurrently reported to one or more campus security authorities, including but not limited to the university and city police.

d Public Property - The City of Hamilton provides statistics for the district in which the Hamilton campus is located. The district statistics for 2003 are reported here under Public Property. In 2004, the University, based on the directions provided in the Handbook for Campus Crime Reporting, did not include the crime statistics for the Hamilton district in which the Hamilton campus is located. However, Miami University has elected to continue to include the Hamilton district statistics for 2004 and 2005 in Appendix B.

e Hate Crimes. Hate crimes are crimes that manifest evidence that the victim was intentionally selected because of the victim's actual or perceived race (RA), religion (RE), sexual orientation (SO), gender (G), ethnicity (E) or disability (D).

The City of Hamilton provides statistics for the district in which the Hamilton campus is located. The district statistics for 2003 are reported here under Hate Crimes-Public Property. Based on the advice and direction of the U.S. Department of Education, the University has reported the statistics for 2003 in the Hate Crimes-Local & State Police category on the U.S. Department of Education Campus Crime and Security Survey. In 2004, based on the directions provided in the Handbook for Campus Crime Reporting, no crime statistics will be reported for 2004 under Hate Crime- Public Property or on the Hate Crimes-Local & State Police category on the U.S. Department of Education Campus Crime and Security Survey.
