* 7 non-verfied sexual assaults are included in the respective geographic locations.

a Non-Campus is (1) any building or property owned or controlled by a student organization that is officially recognized by Miami; or (2) any building or property owned or controlled by Miami that is used in direct support of or in relation to, Miami's educational purposes, is frequently used by students, and is not within the same reasonably contiguous geograhic area of Miami.

b The city of Oxford provides reports for the entire city of Oxford. The City of Oxford statistics for Criminal Offenses On Campus and Criminal Offenses Off Campus are reported in those categories. Thus, the statistics reported here as Public Property do NOT include City of Oxford Campus or Non-Campus statistics. Miami University owns property throughout the city of Oxford, and during the academic year, the majority of the residents in the City of Oxford are Miami University students. Because our students live, work, and learn throughout the entire Oxford community, Miami University has exceeded the Criminal Offenses Public Property reporting requirements and provided crime statistics for the City of Oxford for 2001, 2002, and 2003.

For the U.S. Department of Education Campus Crime and Security Survey (http://ope.ed.gov/security), the 2001 and 2002 statistics are reported under Criminal Offenses-Public Property. Based on the advice and direction of the U.S. Department of Education, the University has reported the City of Oxford statistics for 2003 in the Local & State Police categories on the U.S. Department of Education Campus Crime and Security Survey.

c "Non-Verified" reports are reports that have been made to campus authorities other than the Miami University Police or Oxford Police. These reporting authorities include the Office of Judicial Affairs (now called Ethics and Student Conflict Resolution), the Office of Residence Life, coaches, and advisers to student organizations.

Although non-verified reports are not always reported to university or city police departments or independently verified by police as having occurred, lack of verification does not reflect the veracity of the report. Statistics contained in this category may duplicate crimes concurrently reported to one or more security authorities, including but not limited to the university and city police.

d Hate Crime. Hate crimes are crimes that manifest evidence that the victim was intentionally selected because of the victim's actual or perceived race (RA), religion (RE), sexual orientation (SO), gender (G), ethnicity (E) or disability (D).

The 2002 report of two aggravated assault hate crimes (RA) were reported by the City of Oxford as occurring within the City of Oxford (public property). The City of Oxford provides reports for the entire City of Oxford. Miami University owns property throughout the City of Oxford, and during the academic year, the majority of the residents in the City of Oxford are Miami University students. Because our students live, work, and learn throughout the entire Oxford community, Miami University has exceeded the Hate Crime reporting requirements and provided statistics for the City of Oxford for 2001, 2002, and 2003.

For the U.S. Department of Education Campus Crime and Security Survey (http://ope.ed.gov/security), the 2001 and 2002 statistics are reported under Hate Crimes-Public Property. Based on the advice and direction of the U.S. Department of Education, the University has reported the City of Oxford statistics for 2003 in the Hate Crimes-Local & State Police categories on the U.S. Department of Education Campus Crime and Security Survey.
