Miami University began to weave the tapestry of diversity
in 1998 with a comprehensive document entitled
"Plan for Institutional Diversity." Four areas
were highlighted: climate, curriculum, recruitment
and retention, and evaluation. The initiatives set
forth in this plan were ground-breaking for Miami.
It laid the groundwork for a systematic approach toward
including diversity in all aspects of university life.
And contained within the plan were possibilities for
expansion and suggestions for new directions.
Since 1998 the tapestry has grown larger and more
intricate and, at the same time, the areas of climate,
curriculum, recruitment and retention, and evaluation
have become more tightly interwoven. This report focuses
on what Miami has done over the past year to become
a more diverse institution.
