Recruiting and Outreach Efforts

Are there recruiting and outreach efforts aimed at increasing the diversity of the student body?

Miami works aggressively to increase the diversity of our student population through efforts such as the following:

  • Inviting guidance counselors from diverse high schools to campus.

  • Inviting hundreds of high school students from cities such as Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Detroit to campus annually for Miami-funded visitation programs. For more information, call the Office of Admission at 513-529-2531.

  • Encouraging leadership development and academic excellence among ethnically diverse high school students. The Multicultural Leadership Program (MLP) provides high school students with exposure to opportunities in higher education and professional careers. College preparation workshops are held for high school juniors, with continuing opportunities for those who enroll at Miami. Scholarships, internships, and networking are a part of the program. • Nurturing academic excellence among high school students. Miami’s Junior Scholars Program is a residential summer program that provides opportunities for academically talented rising high school seniors to earn college credit. Since 1994, 21 percent of the participants have been students from underrepresented ethnic groups. Since 1997, 12 percent of the participants have been international students from such countries as England, France, Germany, Italy, Kenya, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Tanzania, and Turkey.
