Alternate Viewing of Dalai Lama Lecture

Due to the overwhelming interest in this event, Miami has arranged to set up remote viewing locations on large video screens at Hall Auditorium on the Oxford campus, Parrish Auditorium on the Hamilton campus, Dave Finkelman Auditorium on the Middletown campus and at the Voice of America Learning Center (VOALC) in West Chester. (All tickets at the VOALC have been claimed.) Admission is free at these remote locations, but free tickets must be ordered in advance through the Miami University Box Office for all locations. Tickets may be ordered online, over the phone or in person at the Box Office in the Shriver Center on the Oxford campus. Tickets for these remote venues will be available beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, with a limit of four tickets per person. Mail orders must be received by 10 a.m. Friday, October 15, in order for the university to print and mail all tickets in time for the Oct. 21 lecture. In-person sales at the Box Office can continue until 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 20. No Box Office staff will be on site for sales at the simulcast venues. For more information, visit Miami’s Box Office.

Frequently Asked Questions

What about security measures? Will the lines into Millett be long?
Millett will open at noon for the 2 p.m. lecture. Lines will likely be long. Plan to arrive more than an hour in advance.

The safety and security of His Holiness is our utmost concern. Hosting a guest of this magnitude requires a significant security process for all attendees and has been likened to what you experience at a busy airport. Thus, you are prohibited from bringing many items, including backpacks/large bags, laptops and umbrellas. While no outside food is permitted, the Millett concession stands will be open.

Why were the ticket prices set so low?
Miami University’s agreement with the Dalai Lama prohibits us from making a profit on the event. The University is presenting this event first and foremost as a unique educational opportunity for our campus and wanted to assure the event would be affordable to our students and employees. The event ticket prices are set at a level to cover some of the costs of the event while assuring affordability for Miamians. We also wanted to keep the event affordable for the community, as well.

How do I get my tickets?
All tickets will be mailed to you within 2-3 weeks of purchase.

Can I sell my ticket to someone else?
The resale of tickets is a violation of Miami’s ticketing policy and Miami University reserves the right to revoke a resold ticket. In keeping with the title of His Holiness’ speech, “Ethics in a Modern World,” we ask that you honor our ticket price policy.

How much is Miami paying the Dalai Lama?
His Holiness the Dalai Lama does not accept a speaking fee, and asks that ticket prices be set at an appropriate level to help offset associated costs.
