Apply for Admission
Transfer Acceptance
We welcome applications from transfer students for both the fall and spring semesters or for any of our four summer terms. However, because the number of transfer students who can be accepted for admission depends on the number of enrolled students that we retain (our retention rate of freshmen who returned for their sophomore year is consistently 90 percent), transfer admission is limited and competitive.
Students who have the strongest academic records are given priority. In recent years, most transfer students with a B (3.0) average or better in a rigorous academic curriculum have been accepted for admission. However, when space and facilities permit, transfer students who are below this average but who have at least a 2.0 average will be considered. A student who does not have a 2.0 average and has been attending college during the past two calendar years will not be considered for admission.
In computing the grade point average of transfer applicants, non-academic courses such as orientation, study skills, or remedial pre-college-level work are not included. Also, an incomplete is considered as an F.
Applicants from another Ohio public college or university who have completed the transfer module from that institution will receive preferential admission consideration in accordance with the Ohio State Articulation and Transfer Policy.
Program Limitations
You are invited to declare a major when you apply for transfer admission. If you are undecided in your choice of major, you will be placed in the College of Arts and Science until you select one.
Transfer admission to some programs is limited, with requirements such as a higher grade point average (g.p.a.) or upperclass standing. These programs are included in the following schools:
Updated information available on special requirements is available in the General Bulletin or in the Opportunities and Guidelines for Transfer Students brochure.
