Campus Life

Your life on campus is centered in residence halls. They're designed to help you feel at home by their small size and extensive programs where you get to know the students you live with. They're close to classroom buildings, the recreational sports center, and uptown Oxford. Studies show that students living in residence halls perform better academically and participate more fully in campus life.

• All first-year and second-year students live in the residence halls.
• No high-rise dorms here. Our residence halls are small (just three stories) and sponsor many social activities and sports teams so you can get to know people easily and make lifelong friendships.
• All rooms have cable service and a plug-in for each student for access to the Internet, email, and Miami computer systems.
• Each residence hall for first-year students has a theme so you can choose to live with others who share some interests with you. An academic adviser also lives in each first-year hall to help you with your course selections, college-life questions, and academic progress.
• Our dining halls consistently get rave reviews. Year after year, over 95 percent of the students rate the food and service very satisfactory.

Miami is a residential school. That means that almost all our students live on campus or in Oxford. Students are involved. They're here on weekends, playing intramural sports, taking part in our 300 clubs, working in study groups, and going uptown to listen to bands.

• Choose from more than 300 student-run organizations, or create your own.
• Miami AfterDark activities include swing dancing, campus carnival, karaoke coffeehouse, midnight movies, and volleyball tournaments.
• Theatre and music welcome non-majors in their performance groups.
• About one-third of Miami students belong to social fraternities and sororities.
• Volunteer service is very popular among Miami students. Nearly 80 percent of Miami students participate in community service activities.

Intercollegiate teams compete in the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference and Central Collegiate Hockey Association and the U.S Figure Skating Association.

• Recreation facilities include the Goggin Ice Center, home to Miami hockey games, and the Recreational Sports Center with courts for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, and racquetball; two swimming pools plus diving center; aerobics rooms; indoor jogging track; climbing wall; and two-story fitness center.
• The Outdoor Pursuit Center loans equipment and sponsors trips for camping, hiking, canoeing, rafting, and more.
• Intramural sports are extremely popular here, with students forming 1,200 teams in 11 different sports.
