Finding his passion
Todd Vishnauski wanted to go to medical school and started as a zoology major at Miami, but soon realized he "didn't like biology" and changed his major to chemistry. He said he liked its problem-solving and analytical aspects. A year after graduating, Todd is putting his skills to the test as a researcher for the Pampers brand at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati.
Bridging the gap
He began to look for a career that would incorporate science and the macro and microeconomics he studied during his senior year. He said the position he holds at P&G is an even blend of science and business.
Group work
Much of Todd's day is meeting with different people involved with the Pampers brand. He discusses with market research teams how they want to advertise the product and provides the technical side, "giving them an understanding of how the product works and what we can and can't say." He also works with attorneys to ensure that everything they advertise is true, based on data they've generated.
Back to the lab
Todd does get to work in the lab, but it's not as monotonous as he had feared. He completes product demonstrations, such as measuring how long it takes for a diaper to absorb fluid, and he makes that come to life through advertising. His favorite part of the job has quickly become helping with commercial shoots for Pampers.
Deciding factors
When choosing his job, Todd thought about the type of work he wanted to do, the reputation of the company, and the work environment. "But what makes a big difference in any job is the people you surround yourself with," he said. Todd suggests that students keep an open mind and look for jobs they wouldn't normally consider.
