The Office of Lifelong Learning administers a variety of credit and non-credit programs that fall outside the boundaries of a traditional degree program. You can take a course to get additional or upgraded job skills; explore a creative interest, or keep up with certification requirements. You can study overseas in an intensive summer experience, earn college credit while still a high school student, or get a jump start on the academic year by enrolling in a summer workshop. The following programs are just some of the learning options available:
Study Abroad Workshops
These workshops allow you to earn credit while traveling to another country. Recent topics and workshop locations include botany in the Bahamas, eco-tourism in Central America, language in China, literature in London, and service learning in Kenya.
Local Summer
Workshops
Each summer, several credit workshops covering a range of topics and disciplines are offered on one of Miami's campuses or elsewhere in the area. These include the popular CraftSummer series (hands-on, one-week workshops taught by respected regional and national artists).
Non-Credit Classes
Informal, relaxed, and non-competitive, non-credit classes are designed for people from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds. Whether your objective is professional development, workforce education, college preparation, or personal enrichment, the focus is on learning, not a degree. (Non-credit classes for youth are available through the Kids in College program. For more youth programs, see below.)
Institute for Learning in Retirement
The Institute for Learning in Retirement provides a means for retirees to stay active and socialize as they continue learning through courses and travel opportunities. Members get involved in the university and community to share the knowledge they've spent a lifetime buildingno particular experience or educational background is required.
Post-Secondary Enrollment Options
The Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) allows Ohio high school students to earn college credit and/or high school graduation credit through the successful completion of college courses. The PSEOP is open to students in grades 912 enrolled in the state's public, community, and nonpublic schools.
Youth Programs
The Office of Lifelong Learning also provides unique and interactive programming for children and youth. From science resources (such as the Center for Chemistry Education and Project Dragonfly) to seasonal offerings (such as Junior Scholars, and summer sports camps), a number of exciting educational opportunities await every young learner!
