The Importance of Ground Work

Senior microbiology major Krystal Lockett worked full-time during the summer with professor Marcia Lee studying the behavior of a filamentous fungus that is particularly resistant to available drugs. This fungus is common in soil and can cause infections in agriculture workers.

Krystal presented her results at a state-wide research forum and had the opportunity to meet with graduate school representatives, corporations, and goverment agencies.

This experience was made possible through the Glenn-Stokes Research Internship program, which allows minority students in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields to conduct research and receive a stipend.
