Dinner
guests during the April 2-3 Board of Trustees meetings included
WCP professor Mark McPhail, who presented a documentary he is
currently filming on Freedom Summer '64. He described his visits
to Mississippi, extensive interviews, and plans
for involving students in workshops and possible travel to
commemorate the experience of the civil rights workers trained
at Western. One goal of his work is to bring Western classroom
discussions/readings about freedom and challenges that continue
in the world today. His documentary will be part of the
"Voices of Freedom Summer" reunion and conference to
be held on campus September 17-19, 2004.
