The large oak tree in
front of McKee was planted as a seedling by Helen Peabody's
niece, Susan, prior to her 1882 graduation from The Western
Female Seminary. Little did Susan know that eight years later
the freshman class would plant a tree on campus to begin our
tradition of Tree Day, which Miss McKee brought with her from
Wellesley.
