Football season is off to a great start, with Miami winning the first game over Ball State. Now on to the Big 10, where Miami faces Minnesota on Saturday, September 8. Alumni and fans are encouraged to stop by the official alumni hotel on Friday night and spend some time with President and Mrs. Hodge. Details for this reception, as well as pregame activities at Colorado and Vanderbilt later in the season can be found on the Alumni Athletic Events webpage.

Cincinnati area alumni are invited to the regular Cincinnati chapter breakfast series, which features President Hodge on September 12. Held at the Banker's Club downtown, this breakfast offers a great opportunity to learn more about Miami from President Hodge, as you network with fellow alumni. Details and reservation information can be found here.

The Miami Men's Glee Club continues the celebration of their 100th year, with a very special performance with the U.S. Army Chorus on September 23. This event is free and open to the public. Check the Miami University Performing Arts Series web site for information on this and other events throughout the year.

Gift creates scholarships for art students
A gift of $750,000 from the estate of Edna Kelly, a former resident of Centerville, will be used to establish the Edna M. Kelly Scholarship Fund to support fine arts students at Miami University.

Schroth Bequest Supports Scholarships and Miami University
Mary Louise Schroth spent less than two years as a student on Miami University's campus, yet the experiences she enjoyed and friends she made would always be a part of her life.

Thomas Poetter receives national scholar recognition
Thomas Poetter (educational leadership), director of Miami University's Partnership Office, is one of only 30 university and school district educators in the nation to be recognized for his contributions to the Institute for Educational Inquiry's (IEI) Agenda for Education in a Democracy (AED) program.

Miami to break ground for Voice of America Learning Center
Miami will host a groundbreaking at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, for its new Voice of America Learning Center at the corner of Voice of America Park Drive and Cox Road in West Chester.

Miami to go smoke-free
Miami will join a small group of universities across the United States in going fully smoke-free when it expands its smoking restrictions to include grounds and related outside campus areas on all three Butler county campuses and its Luxembourg campus in fall 2008.

Miami among top public universities: U.S. News & World Report
Miami University is ranked 27th among the top public universities in the nation, according to the just-released U.S. News & World Report college rankings. In addition, Miami placed 67th in the overall (public and private) national rankings.
