WHAT'S NEW AT THE MIAMI UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Happy 2007!
With the start of a new year your Alumni Association remains committed to serving alumni and strengthening your connections to Miami. I hope that you too will resolve this year to more strongly engage with the University that impacted your life in so many ways. Please consider becoming a dues-paying member or volunteering in some way, as a chapter leader, recruiting new students, as a career network volunteer, or on a reunion committee. These are just some of the ways that you can make a difference. Visit our web site for a complete list of volunteer opportunities.
You can also help us serve you better by suggesting areas where we might improve our service to you. If you have ideas for programs or services the Alumni Association could offer, please contact me and let me know. Throughout 2007 I will be working with the Board of Directors to meet with small groups of alumni. My hope is that our discussions will lead to a revitalized Association, and more opportunities for alumni to connect with each other and with Miami.
I hope to see you this year, as I travel the country or as you visit Oxford.

Keegan earns international wine expert title
John (Jack) Keegan (botany), greenhouse manager at Miami, was recently awarded the title of International Bordeaux Wine Expert.
Miami alumnus William Sauerland wins British Marshall Scholarship
William Sauerland, who graduated from Miami in 2005, is one of 44 post-graduates nationwide awarded the British Marshall Scholarship to study in the United Kingdom next fall. A countertenor, Sauerland is currently a member of the Grammy award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer.
Iraq and American military power topic of lecture Jan. 1
Andrew Bacevich, professor of international relations at Boston University, will speak on "Iraq and the Limits of American Military Power" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in Room 100 of the art building.
Found: Mystery in Lewis Place attic
This October two members of Miami's physical facilities department, while conducting a service visit, discovered a 19th century child's bathtub during an inspection of the attic of Lewis Place.
Personalized learning in large classes
Miami University's board of trustees today (Dec. 8) heard of a plan to bring Miami's best teaching practices to its most populated classes: The TOP 25 Project encourages faculty in the 25 highest-enrolled courses to submit proposals for learning models that will be student-centered, encourage critical thinking and bring innovative approaches to learning.
Two professors honored with teaching award
Miami's most prestigious teaching award was presented at fall commencement Dec. 15. Anna Dollár (mechanical and manufacturing engineering) and Kathy McMahon-Klosterman (educational psychology) were named recipients of the E. Phillips Knox Teaching Award.
