Inauguration and Parents Weekend highlight October
As the leaves on our beautiful campus begin to turn, we turn our sights to the Inauguration of Miami's 21st president, Dr. David Hodge. I hope that you will consider being on campus for this colorful and tradition-rich occasion, to be held on Friday afternoon, October 20. Details of the inauguration can be found on the inauguration website. If you can't be with us on that day, we are working to make it possible for you to hear President Hodge's address, live on your computer. Details about this will be forthcoming, so check here or the Inauguration page as the date nears.
Parents Weekend will be celebrated on the Oxford campus October 28 - 30. A highlight of the weekend will be the annual MUSF Dinner and Auction on Friday night. This year's auction includes the framed lithograph "Miami Indian I" by John Ruthven, a print signed by Ben Roethlisberger commemorating his rookie season with the Steelers, and much more. Plans are nearly finalized for this February's Winter College experiences. With classes in both Florida and Arizona, you have two opportunities to learn with fellow Miamians. Visit the Winter College website [http://www.miamialum.org/pages/WinterCollege.htm] to make plans to be with us in 2007.

FOR LOVE AND HONOR CAMPAIGN NEWS
Galas take campaign excitement on the road
With recent events in Central Ohio and in Greater Cincinnati - and upcoming ones in Chicago and New York City - the excitement of the Miami University Campaign For Love and Honor is spreading among alumni.
Gift of $10.5 million focuses on writing
Roger and Joyce Howe of Cincinnati have given a $10.5 million gift to the Miami University campaign For Love and Honor designed to make Miami the nation's best university at teaching undergraduates how to write.
Campaign to continue through Bicentennial
Miami University officials announced today that its funding-raising campaign currently under way, called For Love and Honor, will be extended to become part of Miami's bicentennial celebration--and its goal raised to a half billion dollars.

Miami launches Access Initiative
Miami next year will take a significant step toward making the university accessible to all academically qualified students regardless of income by providing tuition and fees to Ohio students with family incomes less than $35,000, President David Hodge announced Aug. 18.
Bishop-Clark named assistant dean at MUM
Cathy Bishop-Clark (computer and information technology) has been named assistant dean at Miami Middletown.
Five productions in 2006-2007 theatre season
The department of theatre will present five productions in 2006-2007. Main Stage productions, in Gates-Abegglen Theatre, are "Rhinoceros," "All's Well That Ends Well" and "Candide."
Steve Miller Band to perform for Parents Weekend
The Steve Miller Band, whose album "Fly Like an Eagle" was on Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, will perform at 8 p.m. in Millett Hall Saturday, Oct. 28, for students and their families.
Tom Daschle, Rod Paige to headline Lecture Series
Former U.S. Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle and Rod Paige, former U.S. Secretary of Education, will present "No Child Left Behind: Is It Making the Grade?" at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in Hall Auditorium, part of the Miami University Lecture Series.
De Luce selected as 2006-2007Effective Educator
Judith de Luce (classics) has been named Miami's 2006-2007 Alumni Association Effective Educator.
Researchers discover Antarctic insect survival strategy
An unusual survival strategy by the world's southernmost insect has been discovered by a team of researchers from Miami and Ohio State universities.
