WHAT'S NEW AT THE MIAMI UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Do you remember?

Every year about this time, as thoughts of returning to campus broke through the summer doldrums, I recall feeling the first hint of butterflies. In just a few weeks the Class of 2011 will be arriving in Oxford, ready to take on the world. Many of you have helped welcome them into the Miami Family this summer, perhaps as part of a chapter send-off program or by extending good wishes to an incoming student who is a neighbor, friend, or perhaps your own child.

If you live near Oxford and want to recapture some of that feeling from years gone by, I encourage you to join us in welcoming the class to campus. Convocation ceremonies begin with a special welcome by the Alumni Association at the Hub at 8:00 a.m., followed by a procession to Millett for formal Convocation activities at 9:00 a.m.

With the start of school comes the start of football season, and Shane Montgomery and the RedHawks are gearing up for the task. Details on away game activities can be found on the Alumni Athletic Events webpage. I hope you will join us at Yager Stadium as often as you can. Tailgate with friends, stop by the Alumni Connections tent near the stadium, and experience another beautiful fall weekend in Oxford. The complete football schedule can also be found on the Alumni Athletic Events webpage.

If you are inclined to travel beyond Oxford and the various football destinations, take a look at the Alumni Travel page for details about trips coming up in 2008. These trips to marvelous destinations are always enhanced by sharing time and memories with fellow Miamians.

I hope you will take the chance to reconnect with Miami this fall, and in the year ahead.
