Message from the dean:
Greetings,
Collaborations, partnerships, hands-on experiences. For reasons both educational and budgetary, the future of higher education will involve an increasing emphasis on expanding educational opportunities beyond campus boundaries. Happily, Miami's School of Education, Health and Society (EHS) is well ahead of the curve.
We believe it is in the best interest of students to help them put theory into practice and to work with teams of faculty and professionals from a variety of academic disciplines. With universities facing budgetary restrictions, it's also important to cooperate with other universities to strengthen program offerings and avoid duplication of efforts.
This newsletter outlines innovative EHS programs involving collaborations with urban school districts, local agencies and other universities. Some of these programs are the first of their kind, but we're confident that the successes we're experiencing will result in similar programs nationwide.
Finally, congratulations to Timothy Dove '80, Ohio's 2011 Teacher of the Year.
Fondly,
Carine M. Feyten, Ph.D.
Dean and Professor of Foreign Language Education

Two universities. One mostly black. One mostly white. What can their teacher education majors learn from each other? Miami University and Central State are finding out.

It's becoming a tradition. For the second year in a row a student working with Professor Randal Claytor (kinesiology and health) has won first prize in the undergraduate research presentation competition sponsored by the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine.
